'NEVADA' + LAU | GMFF 2013!!

On Tuesday night, NEVADA and LAU got it on in front of everyone, and it was RAUCOUS.

Beneath the grand, golden crested ceiling of Glasgow's St Andrews in The Square, a FULL HOUSE (thank you!) viewed the film with LAU's exquisite live scoring as a direct interaction; a truly unique brew that results in a rich new experience for all involved, each time we do it.

...Which has only happened twice so far, but following the success of this Glasgow Film Festival event, we truly hope to ride out again soon, because it's clear that the work gains momentum and depth with each presentation, and that's hugely exciting.

This 'live format' is the context in which the film was designed to be absorbed, and it was fascinating for Dave and I to register the audience's response in this particularly atmospheric setting.  It's so interesting and rewarding for me to hear folks' more intimate evaluations of the film, many of whom discover a strong connection with the couple's separation.

All artists will recognise the feeling, a hyper awareness when re-watching (or listening to) your work from the fresh and differing view points of each new audience.  It can reveal so much.  It can also remind you to appreciate aspects you may take for granted.  This project was a collaboration of the serious skills of many and I'd like to re-acknowledge the exceptional contributions made by everyone involved.  I was reminded of how emotionally wearing a shoot we had, and - while I'm sure you're all sick of their puce screaming pusses by now - I was so proud and re-affected watching Kim and Louis give it fucking everything.

Martin, Aidan and Kris took their performance accompanying NEVADA, to a whole new level.  The intense synergy and dramatic exchange between the images and LAU's score was overwhelming.  Fact.

Dave and I want to give considerable thanks to GFF superproducer, Seonaid Daly for inviting our film, with LAU, to this year's superb Glasgow Film Festival Music Strand.  We are so grateful to have had this opportunity to present the work, especially on home turf, and at what I consider to be the best film festival in the world.  Thanks also to GFF director Allison Gardner and the staff on the night, who were all so nice!

Thanks to LAU for being amazing, always and continuing to inspire.  HUGE thanks to Tim Matthew for overseeing and doing an incredible job of sound.

AAAAAnd finally, thank you very much to everyone who came, and who've since given really lovely feedback, very much appreciated.

OVER AND OUT.

...And on the day while everyone else did the hard work, I swanned about with my camera and a magical refilling pint of red wine...
